ITDS is recognized by the Washington City Paper as the best elementary school in DC

Inspired Teaching Demonstration School moves to its permanent building at 200 Douglas St NE

President and Mrs. Obama spend a day of service at ITDS developing our playground

DC Public Charter School Board renews ITDS’ charter for an additional 5 years

After a thorough review process, ITDS receives its accreditation from the American Academy for Liberal Education

ITDS promotes the first class of 8th graders to attend high schools across DC

ITDS is recognized by the DC Public Charter School Board as a top performing Tier 1 school

ITDS applied and was accepted to join the Diverse Charter School Coalition – a member organization that catalyzes and supports high-quality, intentionally diverse public charter schools

ITDS becomes one of the first schools in DC to embrace this week of action that emerged following the racial justice protests in 2016

With just one day of missed instruction, Inspired Teaching Demonstration School pivots to virtual instruction

Inspired Teaching Demonstration School completed growth model and reaches full capacity with 22 classrooms – 2 classrooms per grade, PK3-8th grade

DC Public Charter School Board renews ITDS’ charter for an additional 5 years

ITDS offers an opt-in opportunity for students to return to school one day per week in small cohorts

Founding Head of School, Deborah Williams retires and ITDS welcomes Dr. Sundai Riggins as our second Head of School

All masked up, ITDS students return to full-time in-person learning

ITDS is one of eleven schools to opt in to offering admission preference to students identified as “at-risk” in order to improve access for these students to the most sought-after school across the District

The American Academy for Liberal Education (AALE) renews ITDS’s accreditation until 2027

ITDS launches it’s annual musical theatre production with a performance of The Little Mermaid, Jr. The production includes over 150 students in grades 2-8.

After engaging with more than 300 students, alumni, staff, and families in a strategic planning process, the Board of Directors adopts Our Inspired Roadmap, a five-year vision that names bold goals to ensure that all ITDS students have a challenging, meaningful, and joyful learning experience.

ITDS participates in the Inclusive Schools Network week of action to promote inclusive, understanding, and affirming practices.

The existing ground floor is renovated entirely to add 6 classrooms, large collaborative open spaces, teacher work spaces, additional offices and conference rooms.
